Precision laser paint stripping and coating removal

Removing lead-based paint, anti-climb coatings, and layers of old gloss from masonry and metalwork is traditionally slow, messy, and hazardous. Scraping, chemical strippers, or media blasting generate airborne dust and toxic sludge.

Heavy corrosion, rust, and failing paint layers before laser cleaning.

Cleaned bare metal surface ready for priming and re-painting.

Overview

Preserving integrity, restoring clarity.

Our precision laser paint stripping vaporizes coating layers without creating a chemical waste stream. The process targets the bond between the paint and the substrate, lifting the coating cleanly while keeping the base material intact.

Every project is fully documented, providing clear photographic proof of substrate preservation and coating removal efficiency.

Method Advantages

Why laser for paint removal?

Targeted layer stripping

Can be adjusted to remove only the top paint layers or strip down to the bare substrate, depending on the restoration requirements.

Substrate preservation

Lifts paint from soft stone, ornate ironwork, and structural timber without scratching, pitting, or softening the base material.

Lead paint compliant

Vaporizes lead paint particles into a vacuum extraction system with HEPA filtration, avoiding dangerous lead-dust clouds or contaminated chemical slurry.

No cleanup footprint

No media grit or sludge to shovel up. Reduces site footprint and waste management logistics dramatically.

The Process

A rigorous, documented approach.

Coating Audit

Identifying the number of paint layers, presence of lead, and base material type.

Targeted Trials

Determining the settings to strip layers selectively or down to the bare substrate.

Dust-Free Stripping

Vaporizing the coatings with close-capture extraction to isolate lead or chemical particles.

Substrate Verification

Documenting the cleaned, undamaged base surface before painting or finishing.

Compliance

Safe Coating Extraction

We ensure hazardous paints are removed, contained, and documented safely.

  • Safe management of lead-based paint removal with dust-free capture
  • Detailed surveys to establish paint type and appropriate laser settings
  • Operative safety compliance (LEV monitoring and custom PPE)
  • RAMS and COSHH assessments provided for all paint stripping projects
  • Zero hazardous chemical effluent or abrasive grit waste streams
  • £5M Public Liability Insurance for commercial paint removal contracts
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is laser paint stripping safe for removing lead-based paint?
Yes, it is one of the safest methods available. Standard scraping or blasting creates highly hazardous lead dust or paint sludge. The laser vaporizes lead paint which is immediately drawn into our extraction system with HEPA filtration, trapping the lead particulates and keeping operatives and the site safe.
Can lasers strip paint from wood?
Yes. Lasers can strip paint from historic timber framing, cladding, and doors. However, wood has a lower thermal threshold than stone or metal, so our operatives calibrate the laser settings carefully to prevent scorching.
Can you selectively strip paint layers?
Yes. If a project requires removing only the top failure layers of paint while leaving the base primer intact, the laser energy can be adjusted to strip coatings layer by layer.
